Mr. Pilates describes the benefits
of his exercise program in his book Return to Life....

"...complete coordination of
body, mind, and spirit....through proper repetition of exercises [you will]gradually and progressively aqcuire a true natural rhythm observed in animals without known excpetions."
"....
develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit....by re-awakening thousands and thousands of dormant muscle cells, [my work] re-awakens thousand and thousands of dormant brain cells- activating and stimulating the mind."
"....is designed to give you suppleness,
natural grace and skill that will be unmistakably reflected in the way you
walk, in the way you
play, and in the way you
work. You will develop muscular power with corresponding
endurance without undue body fatigue or mental strain."
How is Pilates done?

Mr. Pilates created a system of exercise that uses both spring-based eqipment and matwork exercises coordinated with the breath to help re-pattern the neuro-muscular system for optinal health.
Six Pilates Principles uniquely combined through his exercises integrate a "symphony" of small and large muscle groups to work together for proper joint function. Every Pilates exercises is a "full body" exercise.
An ideal Pilates program includes both mat and equipment exercises. Pilates equipment supports and challenges the body by training your muscles to work like a spring and become more flexible and dynamic. Matwork challenges the body to re-create that dynamic ability alone in gravity. Adding private sessions will ensure that you progress by increasing your self-awareness of movement habits and go beyond doing new exercises with old habits.
Privates or Group Classes?

Mr. Pilates intended his exercises to be taught primarily 1-1 to ensure that his clients received profound results through the benefit of a "trained eye" that provides feedback into "HOW" an exercise is meant to be performed. Private sessions are invaluable because our Certified Pilates Instructors can work with the unique movement habits in YOUR body and provide 100% personalized cues to help you find the most aligned and efficient movements for your body at that time.
Group classes provide the opportunity for clients to work more independently with the guidance, observations and support of a certified Pilates instructor. They are an excellent way to integrate the Pilates principles into movement habits that you take with you into everyday life.
Our bodies are always changing, and private pilates sessions are recommended whenever you want support to go to the next level of awareness and ability.
